Gum Health Care

Scaling and polishing regularly by one of our hygienists helps keep your teeth and gums healthy and your smile whiter. Scaling removes the hard tartar which cannot be removed by brushing. Stains from coffee, tea, cigarettes or red wine are removed with the polishing. We provide sodium bicarbonate-based jet polishing on a private basis which is used for extremely stained or smokers teeth.
If you visit the dentist or hygienist at regular intervals and follow a daily cleaning plan, there is more chance that you will keep your teeth into your old age. Catching the problem before there is too much damage can only be achieved if you visit the hygienist.

Calculus or tartar refers to calcified deposits on the teeth, formed by the presence of saliva, debris, minerals and plaque. Its rough surface provides an ideal medium for plaque formation, threatening the health of the gums and it absorbs stains far more easily than natural teeth. Plaque then accumulates on top of the calculus and caused gum inflammation and gum recession.

Calculus comes in two forms. Supragingival (above the gum line) calculus is the visible deposit that forms on the surface of the teeth. Subgingival (below the gum line) tartar forms in pockets between teeth and gums. Subgingival calculus is more harmful as it facilitates faster growth of plaque.

Your dentist will refer you to our hygienist.
